Google AdWords Advice – Low Traffic Keywords

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Getting a good Quality Score in AdWords is always the push, right? Well, a few things could be tanking your Quality Score.

Sarah, from the Google AdWords team posted three tips and I wanted to add my commentary as well. Shes nails it by stating often the poor keywords in our accounts will cause the rest of our keywords to perform not as well. And the biggest issue are those low traffic keywords in the search network.

Start Small. The knee jerk reaction is to throw a million keywords at the wall and see what sticks. The problem with this is that it is hard to manage this many keywords. A keyword may have terrible performance, but it gets lost in the crowd and you may never notice. Its fine to use the throw and stick method, but I like to throw small batches of keywords at the wall so I can carefully monitor their performance.

: This goes along with Dan Thies Triangularation Approach that he did for AdWords last year. Throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks may work for organic search with auto-created pages, but not for AdWords. Too many groups and keywords leads you down the path of I have no idea how my campaign is succeeding or failing.

Google Slapped? Try These Options

Sunday, February 7, 2010

1) If youre an affiliate, and you are directly linking to the merchants page with your affiliate code, change the CTA to /yourdomain.com/buy/ and do a 301 redirect to the merchant.
2) Make sure your Title tag is unique and contains the targeted keyword phrase.
3) Ditto with the Meta Description.
4) Ditto with the H1 tag.
5) Get the Privacy, Contact Us, About Us, Terms, etc. on the page if they arent already there.
6) Put the keyword phrase at the bottom of the page, just above the footer links. But dont link it to anything.
7) Use it at least twice in the body of the page.
8) Get some good solid links 5-10 or so to your landing page. As strange as it sounds, getting links from pages that are cached and it gets spidered by GoogleBot has helped in the slap – but not consistently.

My Personal way of getting Traffic to your Website

Thursday, February 4, 2010

My past experience has taught me that to gain traffic to your website is tedious work, I own alot of website, most are now on auto Pilot however getting them to have reputable traffic is hard work.

The Website:

Firstly pick a niche, and be the best at it, make sure the website is fully seo compatible, thats the main step, as spiders & Crawlers search your site for new info.. its no good if they cannot spider your site correctly.

Make sure you get your keywords in order, meta tags, titles, this is all major contributions to getting traffic via search engines. Try IBP , Internet business promoter, I use 9.2 the stable cracked version, it does an analysis of your website and compares against your competitors.

Pick an eye catching template, no too many flash objects too.. I sold a site ages ago.. that i did not use an seo for seobh.co.uk.. if you saw it then it has 21,000 members and did well, not the admin killed it with all his hostgator offers and basically killed the site off so beware dont over do it.

BackLinks:

Get backlinks, theres various ways, senuke, xrumer, prstorm they are all blackhat but hey.. if you want them fast use it. People say to me about been sandboxed.. I personally dont believe in it. I have had sites since the eighties and never been sandboxed, personally I think its bull, but we all have out own opinions.

Speak to people within your niche, ask them politely for 2 way backlinks, if they havent thier head up thier arse normally they do. But we arent all perfect.

Another way is using the hidden backlink method:
<a href=http://www.yoursiteetc.com>:)</a>
More info how this is done is on the forums..

Submission services:

Get your site submitted. I use IBP , internet business promoter again, it can submit your website to 2500 search engines. But dont do it too often, every 4-6 weeks is ample enough.

Also try sites like, www.submitwebsite.info great to get your site out-there

Get Indexed – I have just recently created an indexing and backlink tool.. this will enable your new site to get indexed more quicker and get backlinks on HIGH PR sites at the same time.

This can be found here:

http://www.seoblackhat.co.uk/2009/11/08/new-backlink-tool-ceeated-version-2/

General:

In general theres ALOT of ways to get traffic, you can also use RSS Submit tools, theres alot out there, RSS FEEDS & Plugins, which can put your website on auto to 50 website feeds..

More ways are discussed within the forums, so dont be shy and join in.

Reminder of SEO Basics

Just a reminder of some SEO basics:

 • Be Consistent: Use lowercase for all URLs, including file names and folder names
 • Avoid the use of any special characters in your URLs
 • Using a HTML based sitemap that at least links to the important pages on your site (this includes your sales/informational pages) is recommended, but no longer required as in the past. Use Google Webmaster Tools with an XML Sitemap to ensure all of your pages you want indexed gets indexed.
 • Be sure your robots.txt is formatted properly and is not denying GoogleBot from indexing your important content.
 • Provide unique Titles and Descriptions on each page and ensure those tags reflect the actual content of the page
 • Use a valid DTD or XML statement
 • Use the proper character set meta tag
 • Focus on being an authority/expert in your field or market and provide insightful / unique content on your site that can be marketable.
 • Choose a web host that understands the importance of speed and reliability in the hosting environment
 • Shorter URLs are generally better for spidering purposes

Online Marketing – How To Hide Your Link Profile

Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Posted by admin

One of the biggest issues you have in online marketing is the information which is exposed to your competition. And one of those areas is your links. After all, youre taught by many, including me, to run a backlink check on your competitors and follow in their footsteps. After all, why make things harder on yourself, just follow their path and it is essentially a shortcut.

But what can you do in order to protect yourself? I discovered this on accident last month, and Ive done it a couple dozen sites and theyre now protected.

Heres how it works:

1) Dont worry about Google. If a site showed 9,000 links in Webmaster Tools, a Google link: command will often show less than 500. Its just what they do. So, basically, your link profile is pretty safe with Google because they hardly show anything.

2) Natural Protection. Search engines will show a maximum of 1,000 results. So, if you have 20,000 links, Google and Yahoo! will show the max of 1,000.

3) Paid links are NOT penalized. If they are discovered, the paid links just arent counted – but your site is NEVER penalized as long as you have a good link profile. Basically, if your PageRank is a 4 or better, youre in great shape.

Switch to PHP – Keep All Your Rankings

Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Posted by admin

If you have, or are planning to, changing to PHP (or any other file extension), this article will be well worth your time. I made the switch on quite a few of my domains, including my main domain. The reasons for making the switch are pretty simple:

- more flexibility
- using “includes” reduces your file sizes by 40%
- make a change in just one file instead of every file on your site

However, the biggest drawback is keeping your search engine ranking. Face it, doing a ton of 301 redirects isn’t fun for anyone.

In order for me to show you how this can be done, and done well, as I said earlier, I did the switch on my main site: Web Marketing Now. The new design is live and it is completely PHP driven.

“You Liar!” you say, “All the files are HTML!”

Oh, you only think they are. They are all PHP and I will show you the trick I used, but first, let’s review the sites that have STUPID webmasters and whom you can contact to give them the “fix” and make a quick $5k as a consultant.

Yahoo! owned Blo.gs

http://blo.gs/ping.html is a 404 error page. They switched to PHP but didn’t even bother to do a 301 redirect. Whoops.

Just change the file extension to php and you get the right page: http://blo.gs/ping.php

WebConfs

http://webconfs.com/anchor-text-analysis.html is a 404 error page. Aren’t they supposed to know about this stuff?

They also switched to PHP: http://webconfs.com/anchor-text-analysis.php but didn’t bother to do a redirect.
