Reminder of SEO Basics

Just a reminder of some SEO basics:
- Be Consistent: Use lowercase for all URLs, including file names and folder names
- Avoid the use of any special characters in your URLs
- Using a HTML based sitemap that at least links to the important pages on your site (this includes your sales/informational pages) is recommended, but no longer required as in the past. Use Google Webmaster Tools with an XML Sitemap to ensure all of your pages you want indexed gets indexed.
- Be sure your robots.txt is formatted properly and is not denying GoogleBot from indexing your important content.
- Provide unique Titles and Descriptions on each page and ensure those tags reflect the actual content of the page
- Use a valid DTD or XML statement
- Use the proper character set meta tag
- Focus on being an authority/expert in your field or market and provide insightful / unique content on your site that can be marketable.
- Choose a web host that understands the importance of speed and reliability in the hosting environment
- Shorter URLs are generally better for spidering purposes
